GeoLab – centralized lab facility at the Faculty of Geosciences

Register lab user/project

The Lab Intake Form (LIF) is a digital in-house system to register new lab users and lab work in the GeoLab. It replaces the PIF document and is available since autumn 2024.

The LIF is divided into two parts:

  1. LIF: Lab user
  2. LIF: Lab work

✔ Provide access to the GeoLab
✔ Ensure lab safety
✔ Facilitate lab work
✔ Manage lab capacity
✔ Steer lab resources
✔ Provide preparatory support
✔ Secure personal data of lab users
✔ Automate administrative tasks
✔ Record lab usage

✔ Be an early bird

    Register a lab project at earliest convenience to start your lab project on time (ideally >2 weeks before).

✔ To be determined…

    Is your lab project not yet defined? No problem: register the info at hand and update us later via mail.

✔ Course change

    Do you need to adjust an on-going lab project? No problem either: mail us any updates regarding safety or required lab capacity and resources (e.g. change of lab units/WBS number).

Important practical information:
✔ Fill LIF in one go, there is no option to revisit the form
✔ Close the tab after submission, otherwise it might not be recorded
✔ LIF: Lab user: Registered lab users receive an automatic request to provide further information: please make sure they read their mail 
✔ LIF: Lab user: If lab users (BSc/MSc) do not have a campus card, the ES secretary will be informed automatically and will arrange one for them. Supervisors do not need to arrange it!

LIF: Lab user LIF: Lab work
  • Use this form to register new lab users to get access to the GeoLab (e.g. permanent and temporary UU staff, students, guests)
  • Also use this form if a lab user returns for another lab project (e.g. different WBS number or lab units)
  • Use this form only to register lab work, e.g. sample preparations, measurements
  • The lab work can be performed either by:
    • a lab user with access to the GeoLab (e.g. GEO staff, a student working on a related/different lab project)
    • the lab personnel
  • You can also request the lab personnel’s assistance (e.g. for fieldwork preparation)
